A Funny Lesson
This story is bubbly, heartfelt, bittersweet, and inspiring.
Illustrated books have the power to interrupt our thoughts, at any age, and show us who we are on the inside. That feeling of being seen and understood is such a powerful force that many people can remember and describe their favorite illustrated books years after reading them.
Aside from the books I have personally written, this book defines a piece of me that I am often afraid to put into words. I often feel like I am running out of time to explore all of the possibilities that life has to offer. I feel the need to hold on tight to the people and experiences I love before they slip away from me. How can we hold on to the brightest spots of life? What do we do when we finally run out of time? The fear of loss can become a huge setback if you let it take control.
Imagine my surprise when my husband brought me this bullseye as a random gift. After reading the book, I realized that the person who knows me inside and out might be the only person that could shoot with such high accuracy without aiming for anything specific.
I re-read this book often, especially when I feel that familiar tug of anxiety. By the end of the story I am able to breathe deep, give my fears for the future to God, and enjoy the good times as they happen.
